An Overview of EDMT’s Productions
El Dorado Musical Theatre produces a number of different types of productions each year. Each is designed for the experience and comfort level of our performers. All are presented with the goal of delighting our audiences.
Here is a description from our entry level shows to our top performer’s showcase.
Training Shows are the place where our youngest performers (ages 5-9) learn about performing on stage. These shows are scaled to be ideal for young people. The shows are shorter and the music is written specifically to be in the best vocal range for this age group. Many of our shows feature scripts and music that have been created for El Dorado Musical Theatre. This is a very popular program which usually fills to capacity within a day of registration opening.
Rising Stars Productions
Rising Stars shows allow our performers from 6-13 to be featured in their own full length production. They are usually our first show of the summer. Some of our past Rising Stars productions include: Cinderella, Disney’s Mulan Jr., Disney’s Jungle Book, Willy Wonka Jr., and Spyquest: An Agent 006-1/2 Adventure.
Main Stage Productions
Main Stage shows are our large-cast productions and feature performers up to 20 years of age. The fall Main Stage production usually has two complete casts with ages between 6-20. The second Main Stage production of the season runs in the spring with age ranges between 10-20. Examples of past Main Stage shows include: Peter Pan, The Wizard of OZ, Cats, 42nd Street, Les Miserables, Disney’s Aladdin Jr., and A Christmas Carol.
Encore shows feature our very best performers in a production that showcases their talent. This is the one “audition only” show of the entire season. Only a select few of the performers who audition are included in the cast. Our Encore show usually opens in February. Some of our past Encore shows include: West Side Story, Grease, and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
High Voltage, The Tour Group
High Voltage is the premiere performing group from El Dorado Musical Theatre. The High Voltage company consists of 20 young performers who perform high-energy, fast-paced reviews which showcase the talent of the entire cast. High Voltage performs Cabaret shows three to four times a year. They also perform at venues such as the State Capital Rotunda, Disneyland, and the cruise ship Carnival Splendor.
