Show Overview: The Adventures of Captain Hyper

This tongue in cheek musical is a Star Trek spoof. It tells a story of the crew of the Starship Broadway under the command of Captain Jack (or Jane) Hyper.

As the show begins, the ship is under attack by Imperial Raiders who have surrounded the USS Broadway. Suddenly, the action freezes as we meet a pair of Tivonians – a race of watchers from another dimension. The two try to explain the story for the audience and finally decide to rewind the action to the beginning of the story.

The show then restarts with a musical production as the cast sings, “We're Off On An Adventure.” The crew leaves the space dock and receives the instructions that they are to travel to the planet Monotonia 5 to handle a situation. Suddenly, the USS Broadway finds itself under attack by Imperial Raiders.

Surrounded, and with no clear method of escape, the science officer does a Google search and advises that if the Imperial Raiders could be put to sleep, the ship might be able to make the jump to hyperspace and escape. Lieutenant Ki-Ra sings a lullaby that is transmitted to the Imperial Raiders ship and the USS Broadway escapes.

As the crew arrives at Monotonia 5, they discover a planet in crisis. Due to an excessive fondness for watching news reports, the entire population has lost its sense of humor. The planet’s inhabitants sing “We're Monotonous.”

This places Captain Hyper in a difficult decision. According to the “First Rule” of Space Command, there is to be no interference with the natural development of a planet. Yet, the people of Monotonia 5 are in a situation that needs help. The Captain reflects on this decision and sings “In Space No One Hears You Sing.”

Meanwhile, the crew finds themselves stuck on the planet due to a malfunction of their transporting “Call Back Machine” and since the entire bridge crew came along for the adventure on the planet. They sing, “I Wish I Were On the Broadway.”

Will the crew get back to the ship? Can the people of Monotonia 5 be saved? What will Captain Hyper do to save the day? Come see the production of “The Adventures of Captain Hyper – In Space No One Can Hear You Sing.”
