Acting
Audition Skills
Instructor Franchesca Sonoyama
Tuesday, 7:30pm - 8:30pm Mixed
Don't just sing. Learn how to add character and depth to a song and make it meaningful! Don't just read the lines. Learn how to make speedy and interesting decisions as an actor up for a part when given a side for a cold reading! Don't just move. Dance! And really sell it! This class will go over basic audition etiquette, it will delve into the character analysis of a song, scene, and ensemble number, and it will help the actor of all ages really learn to play to his/her strengths.
*Please bring sheet music for 2 contrasting songs, each 16-32 bars in length to the first class.
Semi-private Acting

This is a fun class that will help improve stage presence and confidence. Emphasis will be on improvisational skills and other aspects of acting.
*Maximum 3 students per 30 minute session - please specify 30 minute timeframe.
Shakespeare

Tuesday, 6:30pm - 7:30pm 9-12 yrs
Come join us on a journey into the story of Shakespeare's Macbeth! We will create tableaus, titles, and short scenes that will lively reenact the plot of the play, which involves ghosts, witches and kings! We will also use tool-building games to develop a strong foundation of teamwork, imagination, cooperation, and focus as we delve into the characters and explore the language of Shakespeare. An abridge version of Macbeth will be performed at the end of the class. So during this class or rehearsal process, the students will learn actor and director terminology and techniques as they explore the stage through their interaction with other characters and the impulses they feel within themselves, thereby creating organic blocking and an authentic experience.
Training Show Prep

This class will cover all areas of being in a musical production: acting, singing, and movement on stage...mostly for kids who have little to no experience and want to know what to expect, and how to be better prepared to audition for the Training Show in January.

From beginning through intermediate levels, students will focus on basic ballet technique. These classes will train dancers in proper placement, balance, and strength which will aid in all other classes taken. Emphasis in these classes will be disciplined technique and vocabulary.

This class will start from the beginning and focus on the fundamentals of jazz with fun choreography and up-beat music.

Lyrical

This class will focus on exploring freedom of movement, as well as basic technique.
Advanced Tap

Enrollment in the class is by teacher's approval only.
Those who attended Int/Adv Tap or Adv Tap during the Fall and Spring are eligible.
In this class, you are expected to already know a variety of timesteps, turns, pullbacks, graboffs, speed steps, and be able to pick up combinations quickly!
Beginning Tap

This class teaches rhythm, coordination, and an introduction to basic tap fundamentals and terminology and basic tap choreography.
Intermediate Tap 1

This class is designed to refine and broaden tap skill basics, while moving beyond the fundamentals of tap. Students will put the fundamentals to work by learning new steps, rhythms, patterns, and combinations.
Intermediate Tap 2

Friday, 5:30pm - 6:30pm Mixed
This class is designed for the intermediate level tapper moving beyond the fundamentals. Basic tap skills should be clean and clear for this class. The class will explore syncopated rhythms, and a variety of rhythm tap and music styles.
Voice
Vocal Harmonizing

Tuesday, 6:30pm - 7:30pm 10 & up
This class is designed to teach students the basic fundamentals in vocal harmonization (i.e. a musical combination of tones and chords) with other singers.
Students will work in groups, and use interval exercises and songs to better their sense of pitch and harmonies.
Vocal Prep for Auditions

The emphasis in this class is to prepare students so they may improve and build the confidence they need to do their very best in their next vocal audition.
