SHOW OVERVIEW
Oklahoma is the story of Laurey and the two rivals who try to win her affections: Curly, a cowboy, and Jud, the hired farmhand. The play takes place in 1906 in an Indian territory of the American West during the time when Oklahoma was established as a state. It tackles class issues between the farmers and the cowmen in the still-developing, rugged landscape of a state in its infancy as characters struggle to find hope, love and the fulfillment of "the American Dream." It is also a romantic tale of love. Curly and Laurey both have feelings for each other but have difficulty expressing them because of their stubbornness. Just to spite Curly, Laurey accepts an invitation to the local dance from Jud Fry. Eventually, Curly and Jud duel it out, with Jud ending up falling on his own knife and dying. Meanwhile, Will Parker has returned early from his trip to Kansas City. Unfortunately, his girlfriend, Ado Annie, just can't seem to say no to other men. All turns out well in the end as both couples end up happily married.
The original Broadway production opened on March 31, 1943. It was a box-office smash and ran for an unprecedented 2,212 performances, later enjoying award-winning revivals, national tours, foreign productions and an Academy Award winning 1955 film adaptation.

Auditionees will be seated by number in a row of 20 chairs in the audition room. When your number is called, you will come forward, introduce yourself and your song, and then sing for up to one minute. You may sing acapella, with an instrumental CD or tape, or you may bring sheet music for the accompanist. We do not allow CD's with lyrics on the CD.
Next, all auditionees will be asked to perform a short dance routine for the director and choreographer in small groups. This dance will be taught on Monday, February 20th at 5:30pm at the EDMT Rehearsal Hall. If you are unable to attend, there will be staff on hand to teach this dance prior to your audition time in Studio C at EDMT's Rehearsal Hall. If you need to learn the dance on the day of audition, please arrive early to do so.
Finally, the Artistic Staff will announce the audition numbers of those who are being called back. Those called back will proceed immediately to the "Callback Table" in the registration room where they will pick up any songs/scripts needed in preparation for the callback day on Tuesday, February 28th.
