SHOW OVERVIEW
In the London season featuring the appearance of THE LION KING, HONK! became a stand-out by winning the 2000 Olivier Award (the British equivalent of the Tony® Award) for Best New Musical.
Honk! Jr. is a musical adaptation of the Hans Christian Andersen story The Ugly Duckling, incorporating a message of tolerance. Honk! Jr. tells the story of an odd looking baby duck, Ugly, and his quest to find his mother.
Soon after Ugly is born, he is seduced away by a wily Cat who wants to eat Ugly for dinner. Eventually, Ugly manages to escape but has no idea how to return home.
Along his way, he encounters a beautiful swan, Penny, tangled in a fishing line.
After saving her, the two birds fall in love. However, she must return to her flock and fly south for the winter. Eventually, Ugly’s mother finds him frozen in snow.
Luckily, her warm tears manage to thaw him out and he comes back to life – as a handsome swan! Soon, Ugly is reunited with Penny and the two swans decide to live the rest of their days in the same pond as Ugly’s loyal mother.

Online registration begins May 1st at 8:00pm and closes on May 10th at 11:59pm on our website at www.edmt.info. (if you register after cast is full to capacity your name will be placed on a waiting list). Please bring the online registration confirmation sheet, medical release form, rules of conduct form, conflict calendar, and a copy of a birth certificate with you on audition day. These forms may be downloaded from the Honk! Jr. web page.
Those who didn’t have an opportunity to register online before the deadline may register on audition day if space allows. EVERYONE registered will be in the show. Auditions are to determine who will perform specific roles.
When you arrive you will be measured and have a photo taken for the program. Auditionees will be seated by number in a row of 10 chairs in the audition room. Parents are invited to watch. When your number is called, you will come forward, introduce yourself and your song, and then sing for up to one minute. You may sing acapella, with an instrumental CD or tape, or you may bring sheet music for the accompanist. We do not allow CD’s with lyrics on the CD. No iPods.
Next, 20 auditionees will perform the dance audition for the staff in groups of five. Some groups of auditionees will sing first and dance second, and others will dance first and sing second. Those that did not learn the dance audition on Monday, May 7th, can come early and learn the dance on the day of auditions.
Finally, the Artistic Staff will announce the audition numbers of those who are being called back. Those called back will proceed immediately to the “Callback Table” in the registration room where they will pick up any songs/scripts needed in preparation for the callback day on Monday.
CALLBACKS
Monday, May 14th at 3:30pm at EDMT’s Rehearsal Facility
Those called back will be asked to read lines from the script and sing the song(s) they were given at the “Callback Table” at auditions. They should also be prepared to dance.
